A Midsummer Nites's Dream indeed...

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Sunday, September 26, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career
Today was a surreal & eye-opening day of Life's lessons. I went to be a part of a reading as Lysandar for A Midsummer Nite's Dream without any expectations on myself or pressure to be a "perfect actor".  I went in to just have fun with my fellow cast members during this reading & that's exactly what happened & I found it to be one of the most enjoyable times I've had as an actor. The audience loved our reading & I had people giving me feedback I wasn't expecting or waiting for.

It felt really ...

In with the New & Out with the Old...

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Thursday, September 23, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career

These past couple of months have been crazy.  First off, I found myself going for Disney Resort Auditions for singers & character-look-a-likes & I learnt a lot from these auditions. There're always tons of people auditioning & they start forming a line to sign up on the audition list hours before the actual audition call-time.

I also learnt how to cut an audition song to 16 bars, along with the importance of having sheet music & dance attire for any possible choreographed routines during these...

Updates & "Key Changes" on My Latest Happenings...

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Saturday, July 31, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career

It's been while since I've been here & that's because I've been so busy with work. I've just completed 2 projects back to back within the past month for 2 musical productions for the Ryan Repertory Theater. I worked as the lighting operator for Introducing Harry Warren - a fantastic production of the history & life of Harry Warren & the great songs he composed & wrote:

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Sunday, June 13, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career

I'm so pumped up with adrenalin & excitement today because boy-oh-boy...do I have a BIG NITE tonite at the NYU Cantor Film Center!!!

It's the hottest ticket in town - the premiere screening of "Sacrifice" - a short film I acted in just last weekend for the 48 Hour Film Project, where I played a crazed husband on the brink of a meltdown that could send shockwaves & have huge repercussions on the lives of
7 other people around him.

I just ♥ it!!!

Talk About Things Looking Up This Week

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Saturday, June 12, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career

It's been a week of R&R for me.  First of all, I just wanna say how relieved I am from the excruciating pain from the walnut-sized boil on my butt that's gone away - it was like having a walnut-sized cactus attached to my ass for a week!!! But now it's gone... *big sigh of relief*

I'm really excited about the screening of the short film I shot last weekend in which I played one of the leads.  "Sacrifice" will be premiered & screened on 13 June, Sunday @ 7pm at the NYU Cantor Film Center...

Met the Singapore Prez Today & Took a Photo with him

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Thursday, June 3, 2010, In : NYC Moments

I had a quick meet & greet moment with President S.R Nathan at a dinner reception & took a photo with him -

Me: "Hello Mr. President Sir, I'm Jamie a Eurasian working as an actor here in New York..."
President Nathan: "The Eurasian Community needs you back home in Singapore."
Me: "But Sir, I want to be the first Eurasian actor to represent the Eurasian Community to make it here in New York as an actor."

Then we took a photo together & his security officer yanked me away from The Prez - oh well.....

Carpe Diem

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Monday, May 31, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career

I've been experiencing a whole new indescribable feeling & outlook toward Life lately; a feeling of being free without any emotional burdens or baggage that I've carried for years in my life. I feel a sense of being reborn & just completely living & enjoying each passing moment. It feels like how it used to feel when I was 6 years old & all I had to do in life was to play, have fun & enjoy Life without a care in the world. That's how I feel these days. I'm beginning to learn & fully realise w...

It's been a great week - "From the Hip" over the weekend was a huge success!!! I had lots of support from friends who came to see "The Fall Out Plan" (the play I was in) & it was great being on stage in front of a great crowd & audience!!

This past Tuesday, 5/18, I auditioned & got a place as a member in the Actor's Project (TAP) NYC - a great NY-based Theater that supports actors & gives them the tools & means necessary to develop their career as artists NYC. Many actors with TAP NYC have lan...

Oh My God!! What a roller-coaster ride that was!!!

Learning a 10 minute play in less than 24 hrs & then rehearsing & performing it on stage the very same day!!! I had a great cast & great script & after it was all said & done, I felt like my chest would explode from the inside out.

But I take my hat off to Danika Wood, Diamando Stratakos & Jamie Rosler & everyone else at Left Hip Productions!!  Kudos & props for the great co-ordination & organisation, guys!!

Congratulations to Groups D, E & F!!!...

Weekend Delights

Posted by Jamie Shawn Tan on Sunday, May 16, 2010, In : Jamie's Acting Career
On Saturday afternoon, I spent 2½ hours at Central Park working out with a couple of 10 lb weights under the beautiful, gorgeous sunlight beside the King of Poland - as usual with my shirt off, so that I get a great tan - trying to get in better shape so that I can get more acting work opportunities.

And today...Sunday morning, bright & early, I feel absolutely GREAT. Learning my lines for my 10-minute play tonite at From the Hip http://lefthipproductions.com - a 48 hr short 10 Minute play fe...
